    Farm to Feeder

Welcome to our farm in Woodlands, MANITOBA where we take great pride in growing, harvesting, cleaning, transporting, and packaging black oil sunflower seeds and other related grains to bring high quality bird food from our farm to your feeder! Continue reading to learn more about the process and steps it takes to turn these tiny seeds planted in spring into birdseed guaranteed to attract all your favourite backyard birds.

    Planting

    Planting

The growing season begins in the early days of Spring when the seeds are planted in the ground. These tiny seeds require approximately 3-10 days to germinate which begins the growing process. The early stages of life can be seen shortly after germination when these plants emerge from the ground.

    Growing

    Growing

Next, we turn the fate of our crops over to Mother Nature and pray our crops receive enough rain, sun and heat to complete their growing cycle.

We spend a great amount of time checking our crops throughout every growing stage to ensure they are protected from weeds, pests, and diseases.

    Harvesting

    Harvesting

Harvest is the most rewarding time of year when we finally get to see all the hard work of the growing season pay off!

The plants are harvested to separate the seeds from the plant and transported to individual grain bins where they are stored throughout the winter until they are needed.

    Cleaning

    Cleaning

A critical step these seeds must undergo before they are ready for packaging is to be cleaned. A combination of air flow and sieving removes any dust, dirt, or impurities among the seed. Once this process is completed, they are ready for packaging!

    Packaging

    Packaging

The final piece of the puzzle is packaging these grains into bags ready for happy customers to fill their feeders.

This process is completed in our packaging facility located in a turn-of-the-20th century warehouse located in Winnipeg’s historic downtown Exchange District.

With over 12 products to choose from, there is sure to be a product that suits every bird feeders preference!
